After seeing Ed Sheeran's: Jumpers for Goalposts when I was younger, I knew this was what I wanted to do. Perform, with my own music. So I bought a cheap guitar for $10 and started studying.
Eventually I started writing my own songs about things I went through, analyzed a lot of music I heard, and tried to understand what makes those songs so good and appealing.
In my household, a lot of good music was being listened to. From Adele, to Elvis Presley, and Michael Jackson. From there on, I started to grow my own tastes through John Mayer. I got to listen to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Miles Davis, and more unknown artists/bands like Flyte and Gregory Alan Isakov.
With my music, I want people to feel a certain type of way they have not felt before, and to be heard. Because I also don’t feel heard from time to time.
After playing in high school bands when I was younger (with a lot of stage fright), I learned to love performing and to be able to enjoy it. Now it is all I want to do. Make people feel connected and relate to the music I write.
Right now, I am studying guitar at the conservatory in Zwolle. I have the privilege to work together with a lot of really talented and amazing musicians, with whom I also perform from time to time.
The dream that I live by is to be able to perform with my own band and music, and to make a living out of it. It is what I, Thomsy, aspire to be.
“(...)and it's a really soft and chill and modern version of an old school singer songwriter. And uh, ‘Thomsy’ has that vibe.” - John McNally
